AFL- Geelong Cats unstoppable
April 21st 2008 10:05
On Saturday afternoon i witnessed a team that has just put it's hand up for immortality.
I Refer to the Geelong Cats that have suddenly become almost unbeatable.
The match against the Sydney Swans was a real danger game for the Cats and it turned out to be an absolute beauty of a contest. That was after mid-way through the fourth quarter.
From that point on the Cats took control of the contest after such a grinding effort that was slowly playing into the Swans hands.
But once again Geelong proved their increasing dominate aura in this competition, kicking eight goals in the last quarter to destroy Sydney's hopes.
They really showed no mercy and that alone should strike fear to any team they play this season.
In all seriousness the only thing that could derail this Juggernaut is injuries.
In saying that all their players look so fit and strong. Whether it Be Matthew Scarlett in defence or Gary Ablett in attack, The Cats seem to have no weaknesses at the moment.
They play the game with such speed and verve that in reality, you sometimes get tired watching them let alone feel sorry for their opposition.
Up until now Hawthorn really look the only team that can derail their campaign for consecutive premierships.
But that's just one team and that underlines the position of strength the Cats are currently in.
Who can stop them in the end?
Despite the scoreline against Sydney, that game was closer than many people thought. The Swans, without Barry Hall (suspension) and Tadg Kennelly (injury) really played to their strengths on Saturday afternoon and almost pulled off the impossible.
With all their players on deck the Swans can really challenge for the title on the back of that solid showing at Skilled Stadium.
Adam Goodes however needs to strike some form if the Swans are certain to cause trouble in this years final series.
All in all, nothing at the moment will seem to worry the Cats. They respond with their best football when needed and really apply pressure to the point that leaves teams gasping for air. Geelong could go through this season undefeated and it would not surprise that they were compared to the greats of yesteryear such as Brisbane and Collingwood.
Most importantly Geelong appear to be a champion team and a team of champions.
Good Luck trying to tip against them.

Many people that I work with would be very pleased to hear your sentiments. I work in Geelong, and well, lets just say the mood of the town really is affected by how well their footy team is doing.
That being said, though they're silently hopeful of back to back premierships, things have gone haywire before. Let's not forget it was a very long period (44 years was it.....i can't remember) without winning anything.
