AFL-Sydney Swans Vs West Coast Eagles Preview
April 10th 2008 11:03
The Swans And the Eagles will once again face off in what many have billed as the best rivilary of the modern AFL era.
Both teams have a proud history against each other and the latest chapter once again looks set to draw a massive crowd at ANZ stadium.
While the Swans have the better form and team on paper, this game presents a huge opportunity for the Eagles to kickstart their campaign in 2008.
After suffering losses to Fremantle and Port Adelaide, the Eagles will be eager to beat their two time Grand Final nemesis to highlight just how strong the charisma is at the controversial club.
Without the likes of Ben Cousins and Chris Judd to call upon, the Eagles will now have to look for fellow dynamo Daniel Kerr to provide the prolific plays that can either make or break the team.
On the field Kerr is almost unstoppable. He is able to handle and take control of a game like few others and all this at an intensity that can rarely be matched. He will be primed for a huge performance against the Swans and Duel Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes.
Eagles fans should not worry what Kerr does outside the sporting arena and just focus on the fact that he is a big game player. This is his chance to shine and claim that elusive Brownlow starting on Saturday night.
However Kerr is only one individual and he will have his hands full against a Swans midfield that contain the best tacklers in the competition.
Brett Kirk, Jude Bolton and Adam Goodes are all very strong individuals and will cause mass headache for their opponents whether it be with possession or without.
The Swans literally tackled their way to victory against the Lions last week, suffocating the Brisbane side out of the contest last week.
They have mastered the art of frustrating teams with an in your face defence that leaves opposition superstars with no room to weave their magic.
This battle will come down to how the Swans forwards perform on the night.
If Barry Hall and Michael O'loughlin have one of those accurate games where everything they kick gets points, The Eagles will be in for a very long evening.
Despite recent history between the sides favouring West Coast, This is the Swans primary opportunity to showcase to all that they mean business in 2008.
