April 25th 2008 01:02
Spanish side Atletico Madrid have confirmed they are willing to play in excess of 20 million Euro for F.C Porto captain Lucho Gonzalez.
The Madrid club are already eyeing several stars off contract for next season, among those being the Argentine international.
Spanish paper "diaro As" reported that "the argentine is one of those players that can reinforce the midfield at Atletico".
Atletico Madrid have made it clear that they must qualify for next season's Champions League in order to accomodate players of Gonzalez's calibre.
Despite recentily signing with Porto until 2011, Gonzalez has not ruled out negotiating a release from the Portugese champion.
It is not the first time that he has been linked with a move to La Liga.
Last year Valencia were reportetly offering Gonzalez 18 million Euro to join the Spanish giant.
However Porto refused to sell the player due to the offer being insufficient enough on what the portugese giants were after.
Further information On Gonzalez's future will be known after the conclusion of La Liga, where Atletico Madrid currently occupy the fourth and last champions league position in the table with five rounds remaining.
