Casillas now king of Madrid's posts
February 8th 2009 00:15
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas had an evening to remember last night as he became the club's most capped no.1 in its history in a round 22 La Liga match against Racing De Santander.
Casillas yesterday played his 454th game for Madrid guarding the posts, and it was a match that allowed him to keep a clean sheet as 'Los Merengue' posted a 1 nil win over Racing.
While Casillas kept the opposition scoreless, it was Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain that scored the only goal of the game for Madrid.
Higuain has become a key figure for Juande Ramos' side this season, and his presence was once again needed against Racing.
The Argentine striker finished a fine individual move en route to the posts, and then slotted home much to the delight of the Bernabeu faithful.
With this victory, Madrid maintain sight of leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand against Sporting De Gijon.
Madrid are now nine points adrift of their Catalan rivals, but Barcelona could extend that lead to 12 if they post an expected victory tomorrow.
