Eagles Vick = Superbowl?

August 28th 2009 16:32
Mike Vick is back! The most exciting moment in the NFL since Brett Favre's 1 millionth comeback. But without sounding really gay right now, he looks great and in shape. It really seems like he is back to where he used to be. Yet, he seemed so much more focused than the Vick of old. I'm guessing close to 2 years in the slammer, and public humiliation had something to do with it.

Since day one I have been a big Mike Vick supporter. I remember when people went mad with rage on Draft Day 2001, after the Falcons selected Vick 1st overall. People were furious claiming, 'You can't draft a scrambling QB's, that is blasphemy, he just a show pony,' (Just ask Charlie Ward how hard it is to shake that stereotype). But the 3 time Pro Bowler shut them up quickly, being selected to the Pro Bowl his first season with the Falcons. Not to mention being the only QB in history to rush for over 1,000 yards and throw for over 1,000 yards in one season (Coincidentally being just beaten by LT in MVP votes that year, whom the chargers basically traded Vick for in the 2001 draft). Regardless of how long it has been since he has played, an Athlete is an Athlete. Michael Dwyane Vick is an Athlete, there is nothing else he could have been. God blessed him with abilities that others can only dream of having. Including the fact that he actually knows what it is to be a winner. With that combination, you have yourself a Pro Bowl QB. So how could anybody doubt he would be back in the NFL?

I'm Back!
I'm Back!

Regardless of what has happened, he has done his time. He has suffered and has been humiliated. Today Eagles fans as well as the rest of the world cheered him on, as he stepped on the field as player - forgiven. 4 of 4 for 19 yard, which realistically is not spectacular. But for someone who has gone through what he has gone through, that is more than we expected. He look nimble and alert. His arm strength was amazing, proving to the doubters he has still got it. Frankly he almost shot off Mr. Kendra's (Hank Baskett) on his second attempt. Today did not only mark the day of the 'return of a redeemed footballer'. It was the day I witnessed that a second chance is absolutely achievable, and that society is truly forgiving.

With the addition of Mick Vick to the Eagles squad have become more lethal than they have ever been. Mick Vick adds versatility to an offense that already was very productive. Not to mention McNabb now has someone other than Westbrook to carry burden of playing in Philly. Although this is still McNabb's team and that will not change in the near future, Vick will be a vital part in the future success of the Eagles. You may argue that the Eagles are already a successful team - you would be right. But adding a 3 time Pro Bowler, who is content as a role player; only makes this team better. I understand it is too early to make such massive predictions. But with Mike Vick it isn't a prediction, it is a reality. He is a changed man on a mission. Who by the way has Tony Dungy as life coach and McNabb as a team-mate (Possibly the 2 best role models and friends to have in the league). If Mike Vick is re-instated in week 6, the Eagles will make a run to the Superbowl.

One big happy family!

Remember, I said it here.
