Federer and Nadal show imparable form
June 30th 2008 23:10
World No.1 Roger Federer continued his recent dominance over Lleyton Hewitt, registering a (7-6, 6-2 6-4) win over the Australian.
Federer will now play Croatian Mario Ancic after he defeated Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco (3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 y 13-11) in a match nearly lasting four hours.
But for Federer, his time on court caused few problems.
Marching towards his sixth Wimbledon title, Federer clinically dispatched Hewitt, who himself was showing promising form prior to his match-up with the Swiss.
Hewitt, who has not beaten Federer since 2003, was simply outclassed by the world No.1 who sent the Australian packing in one hour and 49 minutes.
Federer - who is on the verge of winning his 13th Grand Slam title, gave out an exhibition of tennis that overwhelmed Hewitt - himself a Wimbledon champion in 2002.
The Swiss maestro demonstrated a killer serve against the Australian, which yielded 21 aces.
Hewitt had few opportunities to break the Federer serve. Eight break points in all were handed out to the Australian as he failed to convert any of those chances.
Federer, who will march into the quarter- finals, showed his respect for the two time Grand Slam champion.
"Its important to beat Hewitt, because he's always a dangerous rival, but i think the key moment for me was playing well in the tiebreak" Federer said.
Federer's win keeps the imparable final between him and Nadal alive after the Spaniard beat Russian Mikael Youzhny (6-3, 6-3 6-1) in his fourth round match.
Nadal - who lost to Federer in last years Wimbledon final, will play the winner of the match between Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Brit Andy Murray.
