FazI don't want to say I told you (too early)

Since the Detroit Lions decided to pick Matt Stafford first overall, the little faith I had in the Lions is now gone! Over the past few years, first year QB's have not been the most effective options to rely the entire season on. With the exception of Ben Roesthlisberger, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, 1st round QB's that are super efficient have been few and far between. Those that know me consider me to be an optimist. Especially when it comes to QB's in the NFL, because I understand that there are 100's of factors that come into play that will shape a QB's success. But I think the Lions have made yet another mistake by selecting Matt Stafford 1st overall in the 2009 NFL draft. Frankly the only good thing they have done over the past 10 years was selecting Roy Williams 7th overall in 04' (who now plays for the Cowboys). Especially seeing as they have a pretty good QB in Culpepper. Although he may be fumble and injury prone, he is still a veteran, who at one time was considered to be one of the best in the league. They passed on Aaron Curry, Michael Crabtree, Mark Sanchez, Knowshon Moreno, Jeremy Macklin and B.J Raji - to name a few.
The few players I just mentioned could have come in and performed immediately. Have you seen how much of force B.J Raji is on defense? He is a machine! Have you seen how close Michael Crabtree's game is to great Jerry Rice? Do you not see the resemblance of Aaron Curry's game to the assassin they call Keith Bulluck? I would have been more than happy if the selected any of these guys. But they didn't. Stafford had a less than stellar performance in his debut, but Mark Sanchez led the Jets to 93 yard drive touchdown drive in his debut (his first pass - 48 yards). How do you fell now Detroit? I really feel like saying I told you so, but I realize the season has just begun. I just hope that the Lions realize they need to nurse Stafford into a starting role slowly. They should have more faith in Culpepper to lead the team, seeing as the signed him for that reason last year anyway. Possibly make a trade for Mike Vick or anyone half-good for that matter. Matt Stafford could be great! But not right now. They should have taken him later in the 1st round and gone with a safer pick. But onlt time will tell!
I just hope that for the sake of the entire city of Detroit, Matt Stafford ends up being great! I really want to be wrong in this instance, but I have a really strong feeling I am not. I have more faith that there will be peace in the middle east, than I have in Matt Stafford's effectiveness this year. Lions have made more mistakes than IKEA make furniture. Do something to benefit you team for once, and invest in a sure thing!
