Is Nadal up to the pressure?
August 25th 2008 00:55
Roger Federer is ready to throw the gauntlet down to Rafael Nadal.
"Rafa will feel what I have been feeling for the past five years", Federer said on the cusp of the US Open.
"Now, it is he who is the favourite" the Swiss maestro laughed after relinquishing his 238 week rein as the ruler of Men's Tennis at no.1.
When the US Open begins tomorrow, Federer will notice change. It will be the first time in many moons that he will be world no.2, after Nadal recently claimed the crown of men's Tennis seven days ago.
How does Federer feel about it?
"During the five years, I thought it was necessary to win every tournament but now things have changed.
"Nadal will feel the pressure of being world no.1. It will be interesting to see how he handles favouritism on all surfaces after demonstrating such great form this year.
"For now, he is the favourite for the US Open." Federer smiles
In regards to his own chances in claiming an elusive grand slam in 2008, Federer will approach every match with caution.
"I have to start with care. I have been very consistent this year in Grand Slam events. But Nadal is playing very, very well and deserves to be no.1."
