King Rafa pure gold

Rafael Nadal has squashed Fernando Gonzalez in the final of the men's Tennis tournament in Beijing to claim the gold, thus reminding us why he is the new world no.1.
Nadal beat the Chilean 6-3,7-5,6-3. The Mallorcan showcased a grand level of Tennis and had few problems on his quest for gold in Beijing.
From tomorrow, Nadal will officially be the new no.1 player in the ATP rankings, ending Roger Federer's four year reign on the pinnacle of men's Tennis.
Although his status as the best player will be confirmed tomorrow, Nadal received a nice gift on the eve of his new placing as the king of men's Tennis.
Nadal defeated Gonzalez in straight sets to claim the expected gold medal, adding to his great triumphs in both the French Open and Wimbledon.
Gonzalez - who was a finalist at the Australian Open in 2007, went one better than the bronze achieved in Athens 2004. Still, his game was not up to the standard of his Spanish opponent and received little chances in breaking Nadal's present dominance in Beijing.
Prior to the final, both Gonzalez and Nadal played each other on six previous occasions with the ledger all square at three victories apiece.
But it was Nadal who broke the deadlock with a grand display of attacking Tennis.
Gonzalez did not take one step backwards throughout the match but let crucial opportunities slip against an opponent who rarely gives out chances.
Nadal's service game was a fundamental aspect in his victory over the Chilean.
When Gonzalez seemed to be gathering much needed momentum, the Spaniard took control with his first serve and won the critical points, thus determining the fate of the former Australian Open finalist.
While Nadal will enjoy his new found love for the Olympics, his prime target now will be to prepare for the US Open, which is the last Grand Slam of the year.
