Kobe Bryant wins MVP award
May 7th 2008 09:18
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, who is playing in the semi-finals of the Western conference, was voted the most valuable player for the first time in his career. Fellow superstars Chris Paul and LeBron James came second and third respectively.
After such an outstanding season, it seemed only a matter of time before the Lakers main man was awarded the NBA's highest individual honour.
Bryant has averaged 28.8 points per game in the 2007-08 season. He is surpassed only by pointscoring machine LeBron James, who finished third in voting. Chris Paul, star of the New Orlean Hornets, polled very well to finish second in voting and fell just short of claiming the prestigious individual honour.
Paul will now look to take this form into next weeks crucial game against the San Antonio Spurs where the home side needs to win to have a realistic chance of keeping their championship defence alive.
Spurs Argentine international Manu Ginoboli rounded out the top ten players of the regular season after averaging 19.5 points per game (the best in the Spurs lineup).
