Liga De Quito in world club final
December 17th 2008 23:46
Copa Libertadores champions Liga De Quito defeated Pachuca 2-0 nil in the semi-finals of the world club championships in Japan and should await Manchester United in the final.
Without even raising a sweat for the most part, De Quito came out with an offensive attitude against Pachuca and acted accordingly.
Now, they await the winner of the other semi-final match up between European champions Manchester United and Asian champions Gamba Osaka.
One of the key reasons De Quito didn't raise much of a sweat in their game was due to the weather conditions.
It was pouring down rain in the national stadium but that didn't stop De Quito from taking the lead against their Mexican rivals early on.
In just the 4th minute of the first half, Bieler took advantage of a fortuitous rebound near the penalty area to put his side in the lead.
Despite falling behind, Pachuca never really got into their groove against the Copa Libertadores champions, and were punished when a delightful freekick found its way in the back of the net courtesy of De Quito midfielder Bolanos.
Pachuca were flat for the entire match and never really threatened De Quito in a semi-final that always had one winner written all over it.
De Quito on the other hand will assume the role of underdog if Manchester United account for Gamba Osaka in the other semi-final.
United are the hot favourites for the title but Osaka are at home and should be primed for a great performance against one of the strongest clubs in world football.
