Liverpool confident of luring Villa
June 16th 2008 00:23
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said he his very confident of bringing Valencia and Spanish forward David Villa to Anfield next season.
Villa, who is currently the leading goalscorer of EURO 2008, has attracted immense interest from La Liga champions Real Madrid and English premier League side Liverpool.
English website BBC confirmed that Benitez will do all things necessary to lure the Spanish forward.
It is likely Liverpool will be favourites for his services due to the heavy Spanish influence in the squad.
Already plying their trade in Anfield are Villa's attacking partner Fernando Torres, while teammates Xabi Alonso and Claudio Reina are also present.
Due to Villa's recent form for Spain, scoring 4 goals in EURO, Valencia will find it hard to match the offer Liverpool and Real Madrid are willing to pay for his services. The chances of Villa leaving Spain appear very likely.
Spain, who have qualified for the EURO quarterfinals, will most likely rest Villa for their last remaining group match against Greece, who have been eliminated from the tournament.
