Madrid suffer, Valencia consolidate top spot

Real Madrid have failed to beat Espanyol while Valencia regained top spot in La liga after defeating Valladolid away from home.
Madrid could only manage a two all draw against Espanyol in the Bernabeu, allowing Valencia to break clear on the summit of the Spanish Primera by beating Valladolid 1 nil.
Two goals from Madrid captain Raul allowed 'los Merengue' to salvage a point after twice coming from behind against the Catalan side, courtesy of goals from Raul Tamudo and Luis Garcia.
Despite avoiding defeat, the draw will not help Madrid after every team above them on the ladder registered wins on the weekend.
Schuster's side have now dropped to fifth position in La Liga, with 13 points next to their name.
Valencia meanwhile can thank Portuguese player Manuel Fernandez for their victory, after he scored the only goal in their win over Valladolid.
It was Valencia's fourth consecutive victory and they have also matched the great start to their 2003-2004 seasons where they ironically claimed the La Liga title.
After six rounds of competition, both Valencia and Villarreal lead the Spanish Primera with 16 points each. Valencia however are in first position due to their superior goal difference.
Sevilla are in third position with 14 points, one ahead of Barcelona, who yesterday destroyed Atletico Madrid by 6-1.
