50,000 spectators packed the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to see the Argentine legend show all the skills that have made him the greatest player to grace the world game in the eyes of many fans across the globe.
The "No.10" was given a standing ovation by the crowd who also witnessed Brazilian legend Zico and Italian maestro Conti play "the match of heart" with all proceeds going to a kids foundation in the Italian capital.
Italian and Roma idol Francesco Totti was in awe when he starting playing with the Argentine legend.
"It is a pleasure watching him play because he is football" he said.
Totti scored one penalty for Maradona's side as a see-soaring match ended in a 6-all draw. The last time the football legend played in the Italian capital, it ended in huge disappointment after his Argentine side lost to West Germany in the World Cup final of 1990.
Maradona was the most hated individual in Italy back then after he helped knock the Italian national team out of the World Cup in the semi-final stage.
18 years on, the insults have turned into applause for the greatest midfielder to ever play the game of football.
The beneficiary match in the end made 192,000 Euros which will go to a kids foundation in Rome where many are being treated for health and family issues in general.
Maradona nearly played the full ninety minutes but was later substituted due to muscular soreness. In the end the Napoli legend said it was an honour playing the game he loves for a good cause.
"I did it for all these people in the stadium tonight".
Not bad for a 47 year old.
