Nadal to concentrate on Davis Cup final

Rafael Nadal has ruled himself out of the Shanghai Masters to concentrate on the Davis Cup final against Argentina.
The world no.1, who retired injured at the Paris Masters last Friday, has decided not to head to Shanghai due to the Tendonitis in his knee.
After medical results came through about the extent of the injury, Nadal preferred not to force the knee and will sit out a tournament that he is yet to win.
"A lot of people were speculating regarding my injury and I believe now is the time to clear the air," Nadal said.
"I have made my decision to not participate in Shanghai because I want to be fit for my country's Davis Cup final tie in Mar del Plata."
Last Friday, Nadal abandoned his quarter final match against Russian Nikolay Davydenko. After playing through the first set, (which he lost 6-1) the Spaniard decided to quit and now admits it was the right decision.
"I have reached the end of 2008 in bad shape, he says.” This has been a very complicated year despite winning two grand slam titles.
"I've had a great year but to now find myself in this situation at the back end of the season really hurts me to say the least."
Although Nadal will have to wait another year for his maiden Shanghai crown, the Spaniard is looking forward to the Davis Cup final against Argentina.
The Spaniard is indeed the strongest credit in Spain's Davis cup lineup, which also features top ten player David Ferrer.
