NFL Draft 2010
April 25th 2010 12:45
Let's start with the obvious. The Rams drafted Sam Bradford. Good choice. No surprise there. I'd wait a few rounds before drafting him though, unless you're in a fairly deep keeper league. Then, he might mature for you in a year or two. Last year, I drafted Mark Sanchez AND Matthew Stafford in round one. I'd kept solid RB talent and Matt Schaub from the previous year, so I had a need for a decent backup QB, and at this point, I think it might work out.
Speaking of Matthew Stafford, he might turn into something... big "MIGHT" there. The Lions made a really curious choice picking Jahvid Best. After picking Ndamukong (can you say "King Kong"?) Suh 2nd overall, the Lions traded up to get Best. Quite a package deal, the #1 Defensive Lineman in the draft and arguable the most explosive back. With Kevin Smith already in town and running well (not all over defenses, but well, nonetheless), Best will have a little less pressure and lots of room to find his NFL "feet."
The next big question is "Can C.J. Spiller help the Bills?" Can anyone help the Bills? Even though I've been a Bills fan since the 80's (yeah, I survived the BiLLLLs' streak), I've almost reached the realization that they're destined losers. Still, Spiller can't help but give all Bills fans that "last straw" we've all been waiting for. But will they draft O-line or QB in round two? Or WR? They're needy everywhere. It almost makes you feel bad for Spiller, doesn't it? I'd still draft him, but he wouldn't be my first choice, not on the Bills.
Ryan Matthews would be my first choice. Heir apparent to LT2's spot on the Chargers, Matthews has all the tools and all the supporting cast to make him great. He'd be my definite first choice in rookie RB's.
The two receivers drafted in round one were Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas. Thomas was drafted by the Broncos, and Bryant by the Cowboys... Hmmm...Deion Sanders and Coowwwboooyyysss... interesting. The 'Boys have a history of drafting controversial players, and Bryant may be no different, but time will tell. He might just turn out to be a great receiver. I'd draft Thomas before Bryant, simply because there's room for a good receiver in Denver after Marshall's departure.
Then there's Tim Tebow. Drafted by the Broncos, too, it will be interesting to see how long it takes before Tebow challenges Orton for the starting position. Orton played well last season, but as field manager instead of field general, his days are likely numbered. If Tebow can show leadership and flash, he might take over mid-season. He's worth a late round flyer.
