No more friendlies for Messi
October 7th 2008 21:20
Friendly international matches will no longer be on the agenda for Lionel Messi Barcelona has confirmed.
Messi, who earlier beat Barcelona's case to keep him in Spain during the Beijing Olympics, will most likely sit out Argentina's future friendlies which begin on the 19th of November against Scotland.
It seems a deal was struck between Argentina's football association and that of Barcelona.
When Messi was made available for the Olympics, the Catalan giants ordered they would be allowed to keep 'the flea' in Spain instead of him going off to play in meaningless international fixtures.
Three representatives of Barcelona are in Argentina right now trying to seal this agreement between them and the AFA.
Txiki Beguiristain - one of those three representatives, said it was all just business.
"We have come here to ratify the verbal agreement with the AFA prior to the Olympics.
"It is a priority gesture to protect Messi from fatigue and the consequences that come with playing in friendlies all over the world. The last thing we need is an injury."
