No tweetin', unless you are done competin'!

NFL has banned the use of social media during games. Apparently use of social media before and after games is allowed, but during - prohibited. Which I think is fair! Social media has clearly become an important part of society, helping us all stay connected. I thoroughly enjoy reading the banter between Baron Davis and Steve Nash. And I find Shaq's outrageous tweets, overly entertaining. Mostly, I love hearing about trades and signings before most of the general public. Social media has given those of us who are technologically inclined, the 'inside scoop' so to speak.
But I can totally understand the frustration of the NFL owners and coaching staff. It is cool to want to be in touch with your fans at all times. Of course its okay to want to share your on field experiences, with those you consider loved ones. But your job as an athlete is to give all your attention to the game at hand. Any athlete will tell you that there is no such thing as 'too much focus'. It is vital to keep your head in the game each and every minute (I did not intend to take a quote from a high school musical song). Freedom of expression and the right to use any platform to express your feelings is all good. But when you are getting paid millions to win games, the last thing you should be thinking about is 'I gotta tweet, my tweeps'. Plus the info you are dishing out can backfire, just ask Antonio Cromartie!
Social media is the greatest thing since sliced bread (probably better, because I don't even think sliced bread is that great)! I love being in touch with everybody, everyday. Plus I really appreciate these athletes who take the time to keep in touch with the fans. So don't stop tweeting, posting, commenting or status updating guys! Just make sure you ain't pissing off the people who pay you salary.
