NRL- Australian No.1 jersey fits perfectly for Billy

Sublime- Slaters deserves his shot at the highest level

When the Australian centenary team is named for the match against New Zealand on May 4, the selectors at least have a simple answer for the fullback spot in the side.

This answer refers to Melbourne Storm sensation Billy Slater who is without doubt the form player in the NRL and probably the premier player in the game at this stage.

His performances on the field this season have spoken volumes about his ability and tenacity to perform world class whether it be against lesser opposition or true premership contenders.

Slater's performance against Manly was one of immence importance for the Australian selectors. The battle against fellow custodian Brett Stewart was the key in determining the Australian fullback position or so they say.

If this is the case Slater can claim to be the Kangaroos premier fullback for not only the centenary test but for the World Cup later on this year.

His stats against the Sea Eagles were very impressive. He scored two tries, had one try assist, made three linebreaks and gained 200 metres on what was a man of the match performance.

On top of this he is now the leading try scorer in the competiton with six four pointers next to his name.

But for all his attacking prowess, Slater has improved immeasurably in his defence and positioning skills. It is seldom to see a kick landing on grass when Slater is on the ground.

He is always in the right place at the right time and this allows the Melbourne No.1 to kick start the Storm's sets with strong kick returns.

Even close to the line Slater seems to have all the answers, defusing grubbers and chips at will with little hesitance for injury.

He really does put his body on the line when it counts.

All in all Slater has proven himself for the games highest honour so far this season and that is to walk out on to the SCG with 17 other individuals and represent Australia in what will be a special moment for all involved.

The man has done everything that has been asked from him.

He his apart of Origin folklore and has won a Grand Final, what more do the Australian selectors want?

If they want an Australian dynasty let common sense prevail and give Slater the opportunity to shine on the biggest stage of all.
