NRL- Not all is lost for Jason's Rabbitohs

April 10th 2008 12:04

Earlier this week Rabbitohs coach Jason Taylor said he was untimately responsible for the teams inability to score points thus the poor results.

Languishing at the bottom of the NRL ladder, The Rabbitohs have clearly lacked a composed combination in the most important positions of Half, Five-eighth and hooker.

Without any recognised or experienced players in these areas of their game, Taylor has close to nothing to work with in terms of buiding an offensive that would worry any team in the NRL.

What is really astonishing though is that the Rabbitiohs had a similar problem last year with their attack the worst out of all the top eight sides in their fairytale run to the playoffs.

Overall they were ranked 13th in points scored last year but they countered that liability with a defence that was ranked the third best in the competition.

That in itself was a tremendous achievement for a side that in years gone past continued to leak points almost at will.

It all comes down to attitude.

The Rabbitohs made the eight without Craig Wing last season in what turned to be a great year for them.

This year however, they lose their star recruit for an extended period and it seems to have dishearted the team to a point where they look almost amateur in both defence and attack.

Wing's injury has obviously had an effect on the players due to the fact that many thought with WIng in the side, the Rabbitohs would be top four contenders.

Now they are staring the Wooden spoon right in the face.

It's not entirely Taylor's fault for the negativity that the Rabbitoh's have showcased this season. It is essentially up to the players to respond to such a setback and unfortunately nothing has surfaced yet.

The Rabbitohs need to get their heads straight and start laying a platform of good form, so that when Wing does return, he finds himself in a position of positivity within the playing group and in a situation where Souths can challenge for the title.

It's now or never for the Bunnies. It would be a great shame if a foundation club of South's calibre and history collapse in the most important season of all.
