Pressure. What pressure?

April 15th 2008 11:27

In today's world many sports people are increasingly becoming stressed on what their occupation has to offer.

It seems that getting millions a year is not enough for these laveshly paid individuals who do things many of us only dream of doing.

Not even the honour of representing their country or becoming the face of sponsers or products can deem to change their arrogant attitude towards fans and journalist's alike.

Australian Sally Robbins, infamous for being cast as the girl who cost Australia Gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics after fainting, has yet to move on from her moment of horror and sadness.

The demons are still there and it seems they have come out in the form of a one finger salute to a Channel Ten sports reporter.

The abuse that was shown to this man was utterly disrespectful and has tarnished what good aura Robbins ever had.

Was there any need to vent out that kind of response to a man that was just doing his everyday job of reporting sport to the public?

It's not like his a monster or something. He won't curse you to perform badly in your chosen career.

All he wanted was to have some questions answered. Instead of getting answers however he gets alot of animation that would rival Dragon Ball Z anyday such was the drama and action.

Unfortuntely sports people of our generation seem to not appreciate what they have in their lifes. Is it really that bad?

Try telling that to a father or mother of three children on a salary of $25,000 a year struggling to put food on the table.

These everyday people are under the scope everday just to outlast the hypocrisy that is everyday life.

If these individuals are not under pressure, than i don't know what is.

So to all the sportspeople out there who make a living in a day that enables you to retire for the rest of your life. Grow up and consider yourself lucky to be competing at the Olympics or a World cup and not having to support a family in the inner suburbs of Liverpool or Detroit.

If you do not like what you are doing just retire or quit. Even better lets switch places and enjoy the true meaning of pressure and stress.

Thought provoking post. Sometimes I think the pressure is put upon the athletes themselves even though they may not mean to. After signing those million dollar contracts or endorsement deals they have to live up to the hype and some may have doubts about doing so.
