Real Madrid set sights on David Villa
July 26th 2008 00:44
Spanish giants Real Madrid will offer Valencia forward David Villa 40 million euros for his services in the Bernebeu next season.
Villa, who was the leading goal scorer in EURO 2008, is proving to be Madrid's key target if their bid to snatch Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo fails.
Madrid still dream on getting their hands on Ronaldo. The United ace has been in the minds of the Spanish champions for three months now.
If Madrid's attempt to sign Ronaldo falls short, Villa firms as plan B for 'Los Merengue'.
Spanish paper 'Diaro Marca' published that "Real Madrid knows the asking price for Villa will be 40 million euro".
Villa is reportedly keen for a transfer after experiencing the worst season of his career last year. Valencia were almost promoted to the second tier of Spanish football and also failed to qualify for the Champions league next season.
The climate of instability at the Mestalla will be the reason for Villa's transfer to Madrid.
Madrid though, are still awaiting a definition to their plans of snaring Ronaldo, the Portuguese player making it clear he wants to play at the Bernabeu next season.
If United stand firm in their bid to keep Ronaldo, Madrid will flash their checkbooks in pursuit of David Villa.
