Ronaldinho must recover quickly
May 15th 2008 10:01
There hasn't been a soul in world football that has suffered as much as Ronaldinho.
Two years ago, the Brazilian maestro was arguably the greatest player on our planet. His skills on the ball were unmatched and his temperment for the big occasion brought out the best in him.
you could see his charming smile grace the Nou Camp after he scored a goal. You could see him dancing the night away after he lead Brazil to glory in the Confederations Cup.
The man was virtually unstoppable and life never seemed to slow down for the two time FIFA world player of the year. All in all life was good.
Then came 2006.
The year of the World cup was upon us and the majority thought that the men in yellow and blue were about to Samba through the tournament again.
Brazil's roster was frightening to say the least. Filled with goals, skill and passion, this team looked set to do it easy.
Ronaldinho was in his prime and the likes of Kaka and Robinho were eagerly waiting for their chance to shine.
Put in the likes of Ronaldo and Adriano in the forwards and you are left with one menacing national team. A sixth World Cup perhaps?
Three weeks later, Brazil are knocked out in the quarters by an inspired French team led by Zinedine Zidane. ladies and gentlemen Brazil's world cup is over.
None of the bug guns fired and Ronadinho was left to answer why. The Brazilians looked so convincing on paper, much like Adriana Lima looks on a catwalk.
The World Cup was a failure and suddenly, life gets just a bit tougher for the buck toothed Brazilian.
Back home Ronadinho's statue is destroyed as the Brazilian public bear witness to the most disasterous World Cup campaign by the national team in a fair while.
Unfortuntely for the Barcelona ace, he got the majority of the blame. For the first time in many moons, cracks were starting to appear in Ronaldinho's game and this triggered the small stones in his career that would later start an avalanche.
From then on things have never been the same.
Ronaldinho tries to rid a horrendous World Cup campaign with a solid showing for Barcelona. After all, when he has put on a catalan shirt, things just seem to role smoothly for the Brazilian.
But things are different now. There is now a seriousness to Ronaldinho's game that has not been aparent since 2003 when he was in France.
Nothing seems to flow when he touches the ball. Everything looks so predictable and slow. A loss in energy is apparent. The enthusiasm is gone.
Roll on 2008.
Injury hits and the Barca press are now critising his commitment to the club and to football in general.
People start asking questions about his fitness. Photos start surfacing that leave the world gobsmacked. Ronaldinho's fat!!!
Things have turned upside down. The glory days look like an age away and injury has left the Brazilian in a world of contempt and misfortune.
The Catalan club realise Ronaldinho's in trouble big time. The man needs help.
After much work and talk, There really is only one option. It's time for the great Ronaldinho to move on.
Many though that the Brazilian would finish out his career in the Catalan province of Barcelona. Many thought that he would end up being the greatest Barca player of all time.
Now in this present day and age, The player once labelled among the greatest of all time is now set to leave the Nou Camp and join present superstar Kaka in Milan.
This is Ronaldinho's one opportunity to rediscover what he has inexplicably lost.
A fresh start perhaps to what has been a graceful, yet turbulant career.
