Ronaldo return filled with emotion
March 9th 2009 19:35
Ronaldo has found the back of the net in his native Brazil, fourteen months after suffering injury.
He came on in the second half and scored the equaliser for Corinthians in their classic match up against Palmeiras. The game ended 1-1 and Ronaldo dedicated the goal to his adoring fans.
It has been more than a year since Ronaldo played a professional game of football.
In February 2008, Ronaldo suffered a horrible knee injury which forced him to have his third operation in a very short space of time.
While many say that was the final straw for the World Cup winning Brazilian, Ronaldo has other ideas.
He made his return to football yesterday for Corinthians, and once again proved to be the key, scoring a goal to salvage the match.
His last professional goal before his efforts yesterday came when he was playing for AC Milan. Ronaldo scored in a 5-2 win over Napoli in January last year.
So it was no surprise to see Ronaldo celebrate his goal with Corinthians with lots of emotion. He celebrated with the many fans that have supported him through thick and thin.
Although his days of tearing up opposition defences are over, no one in Brazil cared. Because Ronaldo had returned, and he was doing what he does best - scoring goals.
