Ronaldo

April 9th 2008 11:14
Across all corners of the footballing globe, many have branded Manchester United star Christiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world at this very moment, over taking Brazilian maestro Kaka and Argentine whiz kid Lionel Messi respectively.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson even proclaimed the Portugese midfielder to be already rubbing shoulders with the true legends that graced the world game years ago.

After a season that has seen Ronaldo score 27 goals in the premier league and 7 in the Champions League this season, it is little wonder fans and sponsors around the world are granting him the keys to footballing folklore.

But there is still alot that needs doing if Ronaldo will ever reach the status of footballing god.

Although it has been a terrific start to his campaign for glory, there are still areas in Ronaldo's game that need fine-tuning .

Ronaldo's mental capacity in games where the pressure has been applied has not been up to stratch. Last years Champions League matchup between United and eventual champion AC Milan clearly portrayed the flaws of a young player desperate to claim the tag as the world's best.

He became too self orientated and focused on the individual acclaim that would come his way if United were successful.

However it was Kaka that stole the show over the two legs, brillaintly leading the way with the ball at his feet and the United defence including Ronaldo at his mercy.

Unlike Ronaldo, Kaka plays the game as an opportunist. He waits patiently, observing what will come, He sums up the entire situation at an instance and strikes only when necessary.

In the end that typified the gap in class between two of football's most prosperous players.

Ronaldo is yet to demonstrate an ability to lead a team around when it matters most, he has already been found wanting this year when United clashed against Lyon in the round of sixteen this season.

Only Tevez's goal saved the side from oblivion as they went on to snatch a valuable draw in Lyon.

It will be interesting to see how Ronaldo shapes up with his new addversary for footballing domination, The talented Argentine Lionel Messi.

If United and Barcelona qualify for the semi finals of the Champions League, it is most likely that these two famous clubs will clash.

If so it will be a spectacle not worth missing as two of the most exciting players of our generation go head to head.

Messi, despite injury worries holds the edge on Ronaldo.

When Ronaldinho was out of form Messi took the reigns as Barca's main man and showcased the immense talent and verve that was evident in him since he was 11.

From there he has scored a hat trick against Arch nemisis Real Madrid, destroyed Chelsea's defence at Stamford Bridge and saved Barca's Champions League ambitions with a dominate display against Celtic.

These were all tremendously huge games and Messi responded as "true Legends" should.

Ronaldo needs to perform on the world stage to eventually signal himself as a true performer. All will be revealed soon enough.

I think he's just young. Give him enough time and he'll mature into a more rounded player. Good post!
