Round One, Part One
December 29th 2010 15:58
I am a San Francisco 49ers fan, but last night on what was pitted as the first Tuesday Night Football since the forties, I was rooting for Joe Webb. He is a hometown guy that is from Birmingham, AL, and stayed home and went to UAB. Picked as a WR in the sixth round this past April, not much could have been expected of him this year, if ever. Then came Tuesday night. Starting against a Philadelphia Eagles team that seemed to have everything going for them. Michael Vick who may win the MVP, if not finish in the top five, a very good versatile RB in LeSean McCoy, some playmaking WR's, and one of the best cornerbacks in the game, Asante Samuel. But none of that seemed to matter - not on Tuesday. The defense and the game plan that the Vikings had were tremendous, but Joe Webb was the QB who went in and beat a playoff team. He won't be forgetting that December night anytime soon - and he shouldn't
Before I get into the mock college football playoff, I would also like to congratulate Bill Self on getting after Marcus Morris for what he did in the game at California. Morris has had his starting spot stripped from him, and Self said he doesn't know when Morris will get his starting spot back. Thomas Robinson will start in place of Morris against a 5-5 Texas-Arlington team which is sure to be a blowout in Lawrence tonight.
To Round One, Part One:
Final Score: 45-7 Auburn
This may be the most intriguing matchup of the first round with little Nevada taking a trip to College Station to take on Texas A&M and the 12th man. Nevada has the 1-2 punch of QB Colin Kaepernick and RB Vai Taua and is ranked first in the nation in YPC. Texas A&M comes into the game giving up only 3.3 YPC, good enough to be 11th best in the nation which should make for a good matchup.
If it was the beginning of the season and I were to say that Cyrus Gray and Ryan Tannehill for Texas A&M were both starting in a bowl game at the end of this season – some people would definitely have looked at me like I was crazy. However, that is exactly what is going to happen after former starting QB Jerrod Johnson has been benched and former starting RB Christine Michael broke his right tibia in the third quarter of the Texas Tech game. Expect a shootout.
Final Score: 37-34 Texas A&M
Freshmen QB Danny O’Brien for Maryland will try to make it a game, but the clock control and downhill running of the Spartans will wear down the Maryland defense. Michigan State wins this, but there could be a scare.
Final Score: 27-17 Michigan State
Stanford QB Andrew Luck will have a pretty easy time passing on the 77th ranked pass defense and should win this battle of East vs. West. One of the most underrated RB’s in the college game, Stepfan Taylor of Stanford, will have a tough time against a stout running defense of N.C. State, but he will get a touchdown in the latter part of the game.
QB Russell Wilson for the Wolfpack will now have to decide whether he will go forward with his professional career in baseball or come back to be the QB next year. Here’s hoping he comes back. He is a great talent.
Final Score: 31-17 Stanford

To Round One, Part One:
32. FIU @ 1. Auburn
Auburn comes into the game with the third most yards per carry (YPC) in the nation and FIU will not be able to stop the run with their 74th ranked rush defense. Cam Newton will leave the game with four touchdowns – two passing and two rushing. Poor FIU does not have a chance and should just be happy to make it this far in the season. Darriet Perry gets a consolation touchdown in the second half for FIU.Final Score: 45-7 Auburn

24. Maryland @ 9. Michigan State
This game will come down to the Baker-Bell rushing combo that Michigan State has versus the run defense of Maryland.Freshmen QB Danny O’Brien for Maryland will try to make it a game, but the clock control and downhill running of the Spartans will wear down the Maryland defense.
