Round One, Part Two

December 30th 2010 20:07
Tonight at 8:30 PM EST, Antti Niemi returns to Chicago where he played out of his mind last year and helped Chicago end a long wait for the Stanley Cup. He has been erratic at best this year, failing to retain his brick wall status from last year's postseason. Hopefully he can pull it together tonight and get some of his confidence back.

On with Part Two of Round One:

29. Hawaii @ 4. TCU

Hawaii heads to TCU sporting the best pass offense in the nation with Bryant Moniz leading the way at QB and AP Third Team All-American WR Greg Salas. However, TCU has the best pass defense in the nation, which should make for a good matchup between these two.

In this one, Tejay Johnson and Tank Carder will help shut down a potent Hawaii offense and TCU will roll with QB Andy Dalton getting the ball to WR Jeremy Kerley to make some big plays, then letting their platoon of RB’s lead the way. SS Mana Silva is a tough player, but he can only do so much for Hawaii.

Final Score: 45-24 TCU

20. Florida State @ 13. Missouri

Christian Ponder is back for the Seminoles to lead their passing attack against Missouri and Blaine Gabbert. AP First Team All-American G Rodney Hudson and DE Brandon Jenkins of Florida State will be showcased in this game for scouts to see, and we could be seeing them on Sundays in the near future. However, Gabbert has too many options in this game for Florida State to contain, and Missouri will win this by a couple scores - TE Michael Egnew and WR T.J. Moe will make sure of it.

Final Score: 38-24 Missouri

21. UCONN @ 12. Virginia Tech

Jordan Todman might be a guy most casual fans have not heard of, but he is a great talent. The UCONN running back has run for 1,516 yards and received AP Second Team All-American honors in return. Senior G Zach Hurd has been outstanding this season, and will try to open up space for Todman to run through. One problem though – they cannot pass the ball. Virginia Tech will stack the box and make UCONN pass the ball, and that is where the Huskies will be in trouble. Virginia Tech will stop UCONN time and time again, then give Tyrod Taylor & Co. the ball, and it is off to the races.

Final Score: Virginia Tech 38-10

28. Mississippi State @ 5. Ohio State

QB Chris Relf of Mississippi State is one to watch in this game. He must have a good passing game for them to have any chance in Columbus. He has running ability, but his throwing is unpredictable. Ohio State ranks third in pass defense and fourth in YPC given up; so Relf’s margin for error is very small.

Unfortunately for Mississippi State, Ohio State also has a very potent offense. Ohio State ranks 14th in rushing, and will be able to move the ball at will with Boom Herron and Terrelle Pryor leading the way. Ohio State will end up pulling away at the end.

Final Score: Ohio State 34-10
