San Antonio against the wall
May 14th 2008 11:53
The San Antonio Spurs have gone down to the New Orlean Hornets by 109-79 to leave them 2-3 in their semifinal playoff in the Western Conference.
Hornets front man David West was the star of the show as he scored 38 points and produced 14 rebounds to inspire his side to victory.
The Spurs simply had no answers to West's form as the Hornets front man produced a dominating display along with Chris Paul to totally overwhelm the reigning NBA champions.
The 30 point defeat means the Spurs now must win their remaining two games in order to have any chance of defending their title.
Man of the match David West was sublime, scoring 22 points in the first quarter to keep the Hornets in touch with a Spurs side that was looking dominant after winning the past two encounters to keep the series well and truly alive.
But the second half saw MVP finalist Chris Paul come to the fore with 22 points and 14 assists to help the Hornets move one step closer to the final.
Argentine superstar Manu Ginoboli was the only shining light for the Spurs who scored 20 points and produced 7 assists in 38 minutes of game time to keep San Antonio in the contest.
But it wasn't enough in the end as the Spurs capitulated and were left starring elimination in the face.
The sixth match of the series will be played at the AT&T centre in San Antonio where the Spurs have been victorious in the past 5 finals matches post season.
