San Antonio on the brink of elimination
May 6th 2008 10:37
The San Antonio Spurs have gone down 102-84 to the New Orlean Hornets and are now 0-2 in the semifinal series of the Western conference.
Few could have imagined the Hornets giving the reigning NBA champions another comprehensive belting, but like in the first match, it was all one way traffic.
The Spurs have never been 2-0 down in a final's series since 2001. The Los Angeles Lakers were the last team to hold such an advantage where they eventually dominated the Spurs for a 4-0 series whitewash to gain the Western conference championship.
The main stars in the Spurs lineup never reached peak condition against the Hornets despite taking a 43-42 lead into the third period. From then on the Spurs capitulated.
Spurs power forward Tim Duncan scored 18 points and made 8 rebounds but his presence on the field was no where near as threatening as in previous games and is yet to reach top form.
French international Tony Parker also left alot to be desired after only producing 11 points, 4 rebounds and three assists.
Argentine superstar Emmanuel Ginoboli also had a flat night by his standards, scoring 13 points and producing six assists and four rebounds.
San Antonio now must win the next three games in order to progress to the final of the Western conference.
The third match will be played next Thursday in the AT&T centre in San Antonio.
