Sydney Roosters starting to crow

April 8th 2008 10:50
After four gruelling weeks of the toughest football seen in the NRL, one team has announced it is ready for premiership glory.

The Sydney Roosters have begun season 2008 with an attitude and determination that has been seldom since its glory days at the start of the new millenium.

Whilst it is only early days, The Roosters have come through a horror draw which included fellow heavyweights Brisbane and Melbourne and rivals South Sydney and Canterbury with great aplomb.

The wins against the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs in particular showed the development of character in the side which was severely lacking before Brad Fittler took over.

His aura and knowledge of the game inspires everyone around him and its working big time against opposition teams.

The win over the Rabbitohs in round 1 saw the Roosters demonstrate an attacking expedition of football that spoke volumes about the clubs drastic turnaround in terms of potency and skill.

Their forward pack led by Anthony Tupou and Lopini Paea showcased the brilliant ballplaying potential the side has, with both players combining to score off a set play that had Fittler applauding.

The creativity in the side only enhanced when James Aubusson was introduced to the attack, his short passing game close to the line tormented the Rabbitohs into submission.

The win on Friday night against the Bulldogs also portrayed the massive changes the club has gone through.

For the first twenty minutes, the Bulldogs had numerous opportunities to unsettle their opponents but were denied by equally desperate defence by the chooks.

Willie Mason epitomised the true character at the club at this very moment when he saved a certain try, stripping the ball off Ben Roberts, and minutes later scoring his own against his former club.

From there the Roosters showed no mercy with Braith Anasta and Mitchell Pearce effectively taking control and signalling the true intentions of the Sydney Roosters this season.

After three seasons in the wilderness, and a forward pack capable of dominating any side in the NRL, The Roosters now have the necessary ingredients to make this history making season their own.

I agree -- they are doing better than I thought they would. Good analysis.
