Sydney Swans Vs Geelong Cats Preview
April 16th 2008 12:58
The match up of the round pits last year's premiers against a rejuvinated Swans outfit that is starting to heat up momentum.
Unfortuntely Barry Hall will have nothing to do with what happens on the field. It is a great shame that a player of his big game capabilities will have to be helplessly watching from the stands.
This game was built for Hall to dominate and it would have set up a huge clash with the best defender in the competiton in Matthew Scarlett.
However the Swans need to drift their focus on the present, and that is to go to Skilled Park and wrestle the four competition points from Geelong's suffocating grasp.
Many last week were predicting a close affair when the Cats played St KIlda. But once again this incredibe aura and ability that has shone on this team since the beginning of last year allowed them to dominate once again.
So how do the Swans stop this juggernaut from rolling over their season?
It will be hard but not beyond the realms of possibility.
The Swans, like Geelong, have an excellent team structure and also conspire with an attitude that more often than not allows the Sydney club to dominate in defence.
This area will be crucial if the Swans are to play their style of footy against such an imposing force.
The other area where the Swans will be looking to get on top early is the score board. If Sydney can kick early goals it will lay the platform for the likes of Amon Buchanuan and Adam Goodes to dominate in the midfield.
Goode's clash with James Bartel will be a spectacle not worth missing as two of the premier players of the AFL go head to head.
Goodes has the power and the speed, Bartel has a terrific football brain that more often than not orchestrates the Geelong arsenal.
If these two live up to recent form, the way each plays on Saturday afternoon may determine who gets the points.
While many will favour Geelong at their home ground, expect the Swans to fire up in response to recent events of the past week.
It will be a very close game and i just feel that the Swans could get away with this one.
