India batsman Sachin Tendulkar will be fit for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Friday.
Tendulkar opted out of the recent one-day series against Sri Lanka after injuring his elbow while fielding during the third Test in Colombo.
The 35-year-old's participation in the four-Test series against Australia was in major doubt after he missed the Irani Trophy, the four-day match between Ranji Trophy champions and a Rest of India team which is traditionally used to select the Test squad.
But BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said in a statement: "A report submitted by Paul Close, who assessed Tendulkar's fitness at the National Cricket Academy, states that the player has recovered fully from his elbow injury.
"Tendulkar will join the camp prior to the series."
The camp starts at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore next week.
After making himself available for this years series, Tendulkar now needs just 77 runs to overtake West Indies batsman Brian Lara as the highest run scorer in both forms of Cricket ever.
No doubt Tendulkar would love to achieve this remarkable feat against none other than Australia.
When the two nations last played a Test series, Tendulkar was a shining light for the Indian batsman as he posted two high scoring centuries, dominating an Australian attack that is often considered the best in the world.
Indeed Tendulkar scored those two centuries at the Sydney Cricket Ground and at the Adelaide Oval.
The first Test against Australia starts on October 9 in Bangalore.
