Argentine tennis player Juan Martin Del Potro conquered yesterday's ATP final at Kiztbühel, Austria, defeating Jurgen Melzer 6-2, 6-1 to claim his second consecutive title on hardcourts.
The 19 year old, who is the youngest player in the men's top 100, showed no mercy to his Austrian counterpart and disposed of Melzer in just 58 minutes.
A walk in the park. It is the only way one can describe the victory Del Potro recieved against a lucklustre opponent. Del Potro made his rival look ridiculous as the young Argentine confirmed his status as the true rising star of world Tennis.
Del Potro, who is ranked 44th in the world, played in tandem with a monstrous first serve that proved to be the vital arsenal in dispatching Melzer. His secure play along with Melzer's irregularity (he broke a few rackets during the final), allowed the Argentine to triumph in Kiztbuhel, which yields 571 thousand euros for the winner.
Kiztbuhel has proven to be a minefield for Argentine success in recent years. The tournament has showcased an Argentine champion in five of the past six tournaments played in Austria.
The youngest player on tour, Del Potro commenced the year affected with injury, but has now found his best game in the European summer.
"I hope it continues this way, because i am playing really well. Thank god things are looking up after a lot of lows" Del Potro smiled.
"To get out of the slump so quickly and return to court and win two consecutive titles, fills me with gratitude."
After obtaining his second title in as many weeks, Del Potro, at just 19, will find himself in the top thirty for the first time in his flourishing career.
