United turn heat up, Madrid masterful in Champions league
September 30th 2008 22:18
English and European champions Manchester United have shown their class against Aalborg, defeating them 3-0 in the Champions league group E fixture this morning.
Bulgarian and former Tottenham striker Berbatov scored two goals for the 'red devils' and Wayne Rooney also converted to give United three valuable points.
It was indeed critical that United garnered a victory against Aalborg after putting themselves in a pickle at Old Trafford a few weeks ago, by failing to beat Villarreal.
Away from home however, United proved far too good for Aalborg and sit second in group E with four points from two matches.
Villarreal leads the group after earlier defeating Scottish giants Celtic 1-0.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has consolidated their good form in recent weeks, downing Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg by 2-1.
Zenit defender Hubocan scored an own goal to grant Madrid the lead in the first half.
Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored the second goal after the Zenit goalkeeper failed to properly parry a shot from fellow Dutch midfielder Van Der Vaart.
With this triumph, Madrid maintains their unbeaten record in the Champions League after two matches. It is the first time the club has won its first two encounters in five years.
Zenit on the other hand are still without a point and face the real prospect of elimination.
The rest of the Champions League results this morning:
Fiorentina 0 Steau 0
Bayern Munich 1 (Zé Roberto) Lyon 1 (Demichelis own goal)
Arsenal 4 Porto 0
Fenerbahce 0 Dynamo Kyiv 0
BATE 2 Juventus 2
