What about TJ?

At what stage of the off season did the Vikings organization forget they already had a capable QB? Granted Brett Favre is one of the greatest to ever play the game. But we all know that he is no longer at his peak. Frankly his play the past couple of years was dismal in comparison to the dominant Favre of old. He still has the canon arm, and the experience of 10 starting QB's. But he doesn't have the instincts he used to have, or the accuracy he once displayed (precisely hitting receivers 50 yards from scrimmage). Brett Favre is no longer, Brett Favre. In his defense he is still better than 50% of the QB's in the league. But he is no longer a threat to defenses, he is just average. The Vikings have now put themselves in a situation where they have destroyed the swagger of a potential star, only to put their hopes in a declining legend.
Since being drafted in 2006, Tarvaris Jackson has not exactly lived up to the hopes of the organization. Some believed he would be the next Donovan McNabb, but it was evident that would take some time. Regardless of how effective he was immediately as a rookie, it was clear that Jackson has the skills to make a great QB. Not only does he have great speed for a QB, his accuracy in both short and long situations is spectacular. The only downfall to his game in both 06' and 07' was his decision making. This lead him to make more interception than touchdowns in both his first two season in Minnesota (11-16).
In 2008 it seemed that he came into his own. Made great reads and much better decisions. Trying to prove to the Vikings coaching staff he deserved to be a starter in the NFL. Coach Childress made a smart move and decided to stay with Jackson at QB, and he brought in Gus Frerotte as his back-up. Unfortunately injuries hit both QB's throughout the season. And In a move to please fans, Childress gave the starting job to Frerotte after a week 2 loss to Indianapolis. But Jackson wouldn't let go of the job that easy. Every chance he got to showcase his improved game he didn't disappoint. Although he was a back up for a large chunk of the season, Jackson proved he was the man for the job. In 9 games he amassed 1,056, 9 TD's and 2 picks (Passer rating of 95.4). Making him one of the most effective QB's in the league.
It was inevitable that this kid would get better. He has the work ethic and talent of young Donovan McNabb and the confidence of a young Tom Brady. Now that he has finally reached a stage where he can confidently start at QB, the Vikings have all but given up on him. The fact the he might be the most perfect compliment to the great Adrian Petterson seems to mean nothing. After watching the two young stars tear apart defenses late in the season, you would at least think you would give him a chance to start? Nope. Vikings have signed Brett Farve to a two year deal worth a bundle ($25 Million). Basically showing Jackson, he is no longer their guy! Apparently the Vikings are now trying to shop Jackson around, further proving they no longer have any interest in keeping him as a Viking.
I really hope Jackson can find a new home where he will be appreciated. Although the Vikings organization have a great eye for talent, they do a horrible job of keeping it. I just hope the massive investment they have put in getting Brett Favre pays off! Most of the Jackson's teammates have seen how hard he has worked to get where his is today. And they really don't seem to be happy about the news of him being shipped elsewhere.
If Jackson is shipped to a different team (hopefully the 49ers), I know he will thrive. He is way to talented to be sitting on the sidelines. The Vikings may regret the decisions they have made this off season. I just hope its not to the detriment of a talent like Jackson.
