Xavi wants more money from Barca
November 4th 2008 20:37
Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has ordered the club to give him a similar pay check to that of team-mate Lionel Messi.
Xavi, who is considered one of the best players in Europe, has requested to receive 10 million euros a year from Barcelona.
Indeed that is the type of money that only Messi and Samuel Eto earn a year at the club.
There is no denying that Xavi is one of the key pillars that holds the Barcelona juggernaut together. And for that, he wants more cash for his efforts.
The Spanish international is currently negotiating a new contract which could yield the same money that is offered to Messi and Eto.
Regardless of his financial intentions, Xavi is still one of the most well paid footballers on the planet with a yearly wage that consists of six million euros.
Others earning the same money are Barcelona captain Carlos Puyol, defender Rafael Marquez and Brazilian back Daniel Alves.
Barcelona are willing to offer Xavi eight million euros a season, which would put him on par with French striker Thierry Henry in yearly earnings.
Xavi's manager Ivan Corteja is confident that a satisfactory result will surface for the Barcelona midfielder.
If it does, Xavi will have one of the most luxurious pay packets world football can offer.
